Court’s 1 on 1 Sports was started by south Florida native Courtney Young in 2005.
During his high school career, Court earned All-County honors and became the MVP of the Ransom Everglades High School basketball team.
He then went on to Clark University to play college basketball. Court suffered from a career ending injury during his freshman
season and decided to hang up his basketball sneakers. He pursued his hoop dreams by teaching basketball in south Florida to children of all ages and abilities.
Education & Coaching
After transferring to Florida International University to pursue a college degree in Sports Management, Courtney served as the Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball coach at Ransom Everglades High School from 1996-1998. During this time he helped bring his team to an esteemed second place ranking in the state of Florida.
Soonafter, Court graduated from college and became the Director of Operations for the FIU Basketball program while pursuing a Masters in Youth Education. Courtney then served as the Director of Athletics and Assistant Camp Director at Camp Winadu for three years.
Courtney’s experience as a basketball player and coach allowed him to gain a unique perspective on the game and showed him the critical elements needed to for each player to maximize their potential. His education and experience working with children allowed him to combine his knowledge of basketball with his unique and versatile educational delivery style.
1992-1994
- Graduated from Ransom Everglades High School
- Earned All County Honors in both his junior and senior seasons
- Was honored as the team’s Most Valuable Player.
1995
- Attended Clark University for his freshman year of college
- Played on the University’s basketball team and suffered season ending injury which led him to coaching.
1996-1998
- Transferred to Florida International University to pursue his
undergraduate degree in Sports Management
- Started Court’s 1 on 1 Sports at the age of 19
- Conducted his first month long basketball camp at Temple Beth Am
- Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball Coach at Ransom Everglades High School
where his team was ranked second in the state of Florida.
- Head Coach of Hammocks Middle School basketball team where he led
his squad to the Hammocks League Championship
1999-2003
- Head Coach of a Ransom Everglades Freshman team at the Boys and Girls Club run by former FIU Head Coach Sergio Rouco. Two players from that squad went on to play basketball in college basketball programs at Georgetown and UNLV.
- Towards the end of his undergraduate education, Courtney began working with FIU's Men's basketball team. He served as a student, graduate assistant and a full time Director of Operations to the FIU Team from 2000-2004 while earning his Bachelor's degree in Sports Management and a Masters in Youth Education.
- During this time, Courtney worked privately with NBA players Carlos Arroyo, Vladimir Stepania, and Clarence Weatherspoon. He also trained Virginia Tech standout Gene Swindell, and Former All-American Zach Gordon of Pennsylvania University.
2004-2007
- Courtney served as Camp Winadu's full time Athletic Director and Assistant Camp Director.
- In the Fall of 2006, Courtney officially launched Courts 1 on 1 Sports in New York
- Courtney coached two travel teams, the Chappaqua Wildcats and the Armonk Heat
- In 2007, Courtney moved back to sunny South Florida and launched Court’s 1 on 1 Sports in his hometown.
2008
- In 2008, Courtney married Jami, the woman of his dreams, and moved to Coral Gables to live happily ever after
- Courtney volunteered as a Head Coach for the Maccabi Games where he led his Girls Team in the 16 and under division to a Gold Medal.
- Aside from his personal instructional basketball programs, Courtney now runs year round camps and clinics at Beth Am Day School and Ransom Everglades High School
- He is a consultant in many recreational leagues and is also an esteemed adviser for coaches on all competitive levels.
