Courtney Young devotes all of his coaching efforts to teaching boys and girls to grow as basketball players, athletes and young men and women. Courtney, a Miami native starred at Ransom Everglades High School where he earned all county honors in both his junior and senior seasons as well as Ransom Everglades High School's Most Valuable Player. He went on to Clark University where he suffered a season ending injury as a freshman, leading him to direct his efforts to coaching. When he was 19, he transferred to Florida International University ("FIU") and began teaching sports to children of all ages and abilities.
He served as Assistant Varsity Boys Basketball coach at Ransom Everglades High School in Miami from 1996-1998 where his team was ranked as high as second in the state of Florida. He also was Head Coach of a Hammocks middle school team leading them to win the Hammocks League Championship in the spring of 1998. He then went on to become Head Coach of a Ransom Everglades freshman team at the Boys and Girls Club run by current FIU Head Coach Sergio Rouco in 1999. Two players from that squad went on to play basketball at prominent programs Georgetown and UNLV. Towards the end of his undergraduate education, Courtney began working with FIU's Men's basketball team. He served as a student, graduate assistant and a full time Director of Operations to the FIU Team from 2000-2004 while earning his Bachelor's degree in sports management and a Masters in Youth Education.
Courtney has also worked privately with several NBA players such as Carlos Arroyo, Vladimir Stepania, and Clarence Weatherspoon, as well as Virginia Tech standout Gene Swindell, and Former All-American Zach Gordon of Pennsylvania University. Courtney then joined Camp Winadu's full time staff in 2004, and served as Camp Winadu's Athletic Director and Assistant Director for 3 years before launching Courts 1on1 in the fall of 2006. During the 2006-2007 season, Courtney coached two travel teams, the Chappaqua Wildcats and the Armonk Heat. His private instruction services have quickly developed a large following of repeat clients. He has received accolades from parents and players alike. In 2008, Courtney volunteered to take a 16 and under girls team to the Maccabi games where he lead the girls to a gold medal. He also runs camps year round at Beth Am Day School, and is a consultant for coaches in the Beth Am league.
